Saul B. Brenner is a Tax Partner at Berdon LLP and advises clients in the real estate, professional services, manufacturing, publishing, hospitality, and entertainment sectors, among others. Saul specializes in individual, international, partnership, and S corporation taxation and planning. He has particular expertise in structuring and analyzing various business transactions, among them financings, workouts, acquisitions, sales, and succession transfers.
His extensive experience in international taxation includes:
- Structuring business investments into the U.S. by non-U.S. investors and out of the U.S. by domestic investors
- Evaluating the tax and economic outcomes of real estate and business transactions
- Structuring business entities to minimize taxes and maximize financial return
- Planning and structuring compensation arrangements for non-U.S. wage earners
Saul authored the U.S. chapter of “The International Guide to Taxation of Real Estate,” published by the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation. The chapter covered structuring the acquisition of U.S. real estate by non-U.S. individuals and entities. He also wrote the U.S. chapter of “International Tax Planning Manual – Corporations,” published by Commerce Clearing House, which provides comprehensive coverage of the principles of international tax planning for corporations. He has also contributed numerous articles to CCH International Tax News.
He has provided expert commentary for The New York Times, Forbes, Crain’s New York Business, Bloomberg.com, The Commercial Observer, Newsmax Magazine, Bankrate.com, Accounting Today, and Long Island Business News. In addition, he co-authored the article “Get Tax Savvy”, which was published in the New York Law Journal and contributed to a whitepaper on transition planning for architecture and engineering firms for the Society For Marketing Professional Services Foundation. He is also a chief contributor to the Berdon tax E-Alerts and the law firm newsletter Practice Made Perfect.
Saul has presented at conferences in the United States and abroad on structuring business transactions in the United States and overseas. He has spoken at the Practicing Law Institute and has taught continuing legal education courses.

EDUCATION AND LICENSES
Saul graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Albany, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in accounting. He later earned a Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law and a Master of Laws degree in taxation from New York University School of Law. Saul obtained his license as a certified public accountant in New York in 1978.
