Mr. Chilkowitz is Chair of Valuation Services within Berdon LLP’s Litigation, Valuation and Dispute Resolution Group. Over a 20-year career, he has developed broad-based experience in valuation, damages, financial consulting, and auditing. He has particular experience in valuing closely held companies for estate and gift tax reporting, litigation matters, and transactions, and calculating damages for complex litigation matters. Mr. Chilkowitz has supported his opinions in front of the Internal Revenue Service and has testified as an expert witness in both federal and state litigation matters.
Fred E. Chilkowitz graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in New York, has been awarded the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and earned the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation from the American Society of Appraisers.
With nearly 25 years in public accounting, Mr. Zemel advises businesses in the manufacturing, distribution, retail, advertising, and real estate business sectors. He guides clients on the tax ramifications of various entities – Partnerships, LLCs, S corporations, C corporations – offering insights on choices tailored to their particular circumstances. Mr. Zemel advises on the taxation of multistate corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies. His expertise extends to planning and structuring dispositions, mergers, reorganizations, joint ventures, and other transactions. Mr. Zemel’s blog, Tax Talk, appears weekly.
Hal Zemel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Lehigh University. He received a Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law and a Master of Laws degree in taxation from New York University School of Law. Mr. Zemel was admitted to practice law before the Courts of New York and New Jersey in 1993 and obtained his license as a certified public accountant in New York in 2011.
