NEW YORK – As market dynamics and the accounting profession continue to evolve, today’s professional service provider needs to encompass a variety of skills as well as technical expertise in order to meet changing client needs and objectives. To help address these changes and continue to provide the highest quality of client service, Berdon LLP is pleased to announce that it has admitted six experienced, young professionals to the partnership and advanced five to principal effective January 1, 2019.
“For 2019, we have admitted a record six professionals to the partnership,” says Mark Bosswick, CPA, J.D., LL.M., Co-Managing Partner. “These advancements represent not only the growing diversity of our Firm, but also our long tradition of rewarding those who demonstrate technical excellence, forward-thinking, and a sharp focus on client service.”
Admitted to the partnership effective January 1, 2019 are:
Marcy Greenfield, CPA
Marcy is Co-Chair of Berdon’s Manufacturing, Distribution and Retail Practice (MDR) with more than 20 years of experience in public accounting. She specializes in providing both audit and tax services to clients in the MDR and real estate industries. Her expertise extends to planning and carrying out audits of financial statements and reviewing operations and internal controls to identify areas of exposure and develop ways to strengthen controls and increase efficiency.
She provides technical training on an array of topics for new staff and is active in on-campus recruiting for the firm. Marcy serves as Treasurer of the Middle Market Alliance of Long Island and Vice President of Communications for the Institute of Management Accountants.
Angela Katehis, CPA
A member of Berdon’s Quality Control Department, Angela has more than 20 years of experience in public accounting. In her role on the Quality Control Committee, Angela provides assurance and advisory services to the Firm’s clients. Her experience encompasses a diverse range of industries and professions, among them real estate, not-for-profit, manufacturing, financial services, hospitality, healthcare (for profit and not-for-profit), subsidized housing, distribution, and retail.
Leveraging her extensive experience in the areas of planning, organizing, and supervising engagements, she reviews reports and work papers for technical accuracy, Performs or oversees research projects, and conducts internal inspections of audit procedures. Angela is a member of the American Hellenic Chamber of Commerce.
Smit Shah, CPA
With the Firm for nearly 15 years, Smit specializes in serving clients within the hospitality industry — providing an array of audit, accounting, and tax services to prominent hotels and restaurants. His broad expertise extends to providing GAAP and income tax basis audited, reviewed, and compiled financial statements for hotels, restaurants, and commercial real estate owners.
Smit has assisted in writing articles related to the hospitality industry and has conducted hospitality-related educational seminars for Berdon staff.
Jon Scalzitti, CPA
Jon leverages his more than 15 years of experience providing accounting, auditing, and tax services to both commercial and residential real estate owners, operators, investors, and developers as well as REITs. Working closely with clients, he analyzes the tax and financial impact of transactions and recommends various treatments and techniques to achieve the most effective results.
In addition to being a member of the American Association of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Jon is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth.
Thea Kruger, J.D., LL.M.
Thea has nearly 15 years in public accounting — providing tax planning and compliance services to high net worth individuals and business owners in the hospitality and real estate industries. Her industry experience encompasses owners of commercial, residential, ministorage, parking, and hotel properties as well as condominium developers and private equity funds investing in real estate debt and real estate equity. She provides tax planning and compliance services to partnerships, corporations, trusts, and individuals, and examines partnership agreements to determine allocations of income and capital.
She is a member of the New York State Bar Association and is active in the New York City Hospitality Alliance.
Sanford Stolar, CPA
A member of Berdon’s Personal Wealth Services Group, Sandy has more than 25 years of experience advising numerous high net worth individuals, among them managing principals of hedge funds and private equity funds, entrepreneurs, executives, attorneys, and bankers. Sandy has particular expertise in income tax consulting, estate and gift tax planning, and navigating foreign tax and entity ownership issues to help achieve an individual’s personal wealth goals and objectives.
Sandy has written on employee stock options for Bottomline and was quoted on overlooked tax deductions in U.S. News and World Report.
