Stanley Freundlich, managing partner emeritus of Berdon LLP, joined the firm in 1962 and served as its leader from 1980 through 2011 — guiding Berdon’s rise to rank among the largest CPA and advisory firms in the country. Mr. Freundlich set the tone for the firm with visionary leadership and imagination coupled with an uncompromising expectation for professional excellence among partners and staff. He provided insights and advice on all aspects of the firm including management, operations, marketing, and professional growth — where he developed the firm's distinctive entrepreneurial approach to client service. To help drive the success of the firm, he assembled select teams of professionals with specialized expertise in a wide array of niche areas.
Under Freundlich’s leadership, Berdon became widely regarded as the nation’s premier accounting firm in real estate. A distinguished advisor in the real estate community, he consulted with many of the nation’s largest real estate families, management companies, and prominent investment houses — working closely with developers, owners, operators, and investors of residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties, as well as institutional lenders involved with commercial real estate projects. For these clients, he structured, reviewed, and negotiated complex real estate transactions — acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, refinancings, and lease negotiations — totaling billions of dollars. He also helped formulate the sale or purchase price of the real estate.
As advisor to many of the nations’ most prominent family owned businesses, he served as part of the clients’ "think tank" in weighing the tax, economic, business, and family issues. In this role, Mr. Freundlich guided them on strategic planning, operational issues, contracts, and negotiations. He counseled families on preserving individual and corporate net worth, compensation planning, and employee incentives, considering the multitude of variables, among them the complex interrelationship between family members and nonfamily executives.
