NEW YORK — Joseph B. Nelson, CPA, CFE, CFF, FCPA, CVA, has joined CPA and advisory firm Berdon LLP as a partner and Co-Director of the Litigation and Business Valuation Group effective April 1, 2011. Widely respected as an antifraud troubleshooter, Mr. Nelson’s broad expertise encompasses forensic accounting, fraud investigations, complex damage analyses, insurance defense matters, and intellectual property disputes to name just a few areas.

In a litigation career spanning more than 30 years, Mr. Nelson has worked with prominent national and international law firms and insurance companies — representing clients across a diverse spectrum of business sectors, among them real estate, healthcare, intellectual property, and manufacturing.
Mr. Nelson’s expertise extends to commercial litigation involving such areas as financial reporting and compliance, lost profits, business interruption claims, breach of contract, and deceptive trade practices. A seasoned expert witness, he has testified in numerous, and occasionally high-profile, matters involving complex auditing, accounting, fraud, and damage issues. Mr. Nelson has served as an expert consultant to the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI.
He joins Berdon from a large regional accounting firm, where he was a partner and served as a Practice Leader of the Litigation and Corporate Financial Advisory Services Group.
Beyond his CPA license, Mr. Nelson holds an array of professional certifications. These include Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified In Financial Forensics (CFF), Forensic Certified Public Accountant (FCPA), and Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA). He is very active in professional associations with memberships in the National Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Forensic CPA Society, National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, American College of Forensic Examiners, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants as well as numerous state CPA societies. He maintains residences in Stamford, Connecticut and Houston, Texas.
