NEW YORK — Fred Chilkowitz, CPA, ABV, ASA, a principal of Berdon LLP and co‑chair of the firm’s Valuation Services group, has earned the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation from the American Society of Appraisers. Widely recognized as a prominent business valuation credential, there are only 1,500 actively credentialed ASA business valuation members in the United States.
To achieve the ASA accreditation, Mr. Chilkowitz had to meet the stringent educational demands of the American Society of Appraisers' designation program, including 10,000 hours of actual business valuation experience. Mr. Chilkowitz also had to submit a report for peer review approval to two members of the ASA International Board of Examiners and had to pass the examination on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) – the standards promulgated by the congressionally-authorized Appraisal Foundation. ASA is the only business valuation designation to require compliance with USPAP.
Mr. Chilkowitz also holds the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential from the American Institute of CPAs. The ABV is awarded exclusively to CPAs with considerable professional experience in business valuation after passing a rigorous exam and demonstrating significant business valuation experience.
In a career spanning more than 20 years, Mr. Chilkowitz has developed broad experience in valuations, damages, financial consulting, and auditing. Consulting on numerous complex engagements, he provides these services for litigation matters, transactions, and estate and gift reporting. His extensive experience encompasses valuations of closely held companies and private equity and hedge fund interests. He also computes damages in cases involving breach of contract, shareholder disputes, bankruptcy, and professional malpractice among others and has testified in both federal and state litigation disputes. Mr. Chilkowitz has worked with companies across diverse sectors, among them distribution, entertainment, financial services, leasing, manufacturing, professional service, real estate, restaurant, retail, and transportation.
Mr. Chilkowitz graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and holds a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. He is licensed as a CPA in New York.
