NEW YORK — Berdon LLP, Accountants and Advisors, continues to add highly experienced professionals to its team. — this time bringing further depth to its State and Local Tax Group and to Berdon Fund Services LLC.
Terence Avella, J.D., LL.M., has joined Berdon LLP as a principal in the State and Local Tax Group. He brings more than 15 years of combined experience in the accounting profession and private sector. Mr. Avella advises client management teams on a wide array of federal, state, and local tax matters, including all phases of planning, compliance, and provision. He also performs extensive legal research and has written draft memoranda on various legal matters.
Mr. Avella has particular expertise advising on income and franchise tax, sales and use tax, and tax recovery. He consults with client management on the tax consequences of mergers and acquisitions and other transactions and develops tax models to aid in decision making. He guides clients through the complexities of tax nexus issues, including sourcing of income and apportionment. In addition, he consults on audit defense and assists in voluntary disclosure with taxing authorities.
Peter Salts joins Berdon Fund Services LLC, a wholly owned affiliate of Berdon LLP, as director. Peter brings more than 20 years of experience in fund administration for private equity, hedge, mutual, and variable annuity funds. In his career, he has built and managed multiple teams servicing billion dollar clients with a focus on back office services in accounting, finance, and operations.
A skilled finance and accounting professional, Mr. Salts examines day-to-day operations to identify weaknesses and key risk areas and alerts clients to opportunities for improvement and options to mitigate current and potential problems. His experience encompasses such areas as net asset value (NAV), investor reporting and P&L calculations including management and incentive fees and partnership accounting. His expertise extends to financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and assisting clients in compliance with the SEC, FINRA/NASD, and other agencies.
