Advisor Overview


Ralph J. Elio, a retired audit partner at Berdon LLP, worked with clients in a variety of industries — among them manufacturing, wholesale, retail, construction, and the services sector.  With more than 30 years in public accounting, he advised individuals on personal accounting and tax matters and represents clients before IRS, state, and city taxing authorities.  Previously, Mr. Elio was in private industry for seven years, working on compliance issues at Chemical Bank and in accounting at Estee Lauder, Inc. 

For business enterprises, Mr. Elio’s expertise extends to:

  • Analyzing cash flow and projecting needs for additional sources of capital
  • Reviewing employee compensation and benefit plans, such as ESOPs, 401(k)s, and profit sharing plans
  • Building a financial information base for estate planning
  • Initiating contacts and acting as a liaison with banks and financial institutions for credit purposes
  • Advising owners on succession plans and other options such as cashing out
  • Working with management in implementing business plans
  • Structuring acquisition transactions to minimize tax payments and increase savings
  • Performing operational audits to increase efficiency and institute more effective controls 

For individual clients, he advised on ways to protect, grow, and transition wealth, including:

  • Advising on investment planning for retirement, education, and liquidity purposes
  • Creating trusts, family partnerships, and private foundations for tax and family planning
  • Developing personal budgets
  • Managing the details of multiple residences
  • Assessing insurance coverage and analyzing the cost/benefit value of health, life, or other insurance plans
  • Managing bill paying and bank accounts
  • Alerting clients to tax code changes that could impact their wealth

Mr. Elio received his Bachelor of Science degree from Long Island University’s C.W. Post School of Professional Accountancy in 1978.  In 1983, he earned his MBA from Long Island University’s Graduate School of Business and was licensed by New York as a certified public accountant.
